Stoner on testing, Melandri and the GP8

Topping the timesheets on both days of testing after the Gran Premio bwin de la Comunitat Valenciana, 2007 World Champion Casey Stoner closed the book on a fine year since his maiden outing with Ducati. The Australian worked with this seasons bike over the course of the two days, and was happy with the results of the Valencia test.

Everything seems to be going well. Yesterday we went out and did a 132.5 on the second lap, which was already a couple of tenths quicker than my race pace, said Stoner after concluding the day earlier than the majority of his rivals.

We just changed a little in the engine management system, and other than that not too much. Even last year this test was positive for us, so its a nice circle.

Whilst rival teams such as Honda and Suzuki gave their 2008 models a run-out at the Spanish circuit, Ducati have been secretive as to when the Desmosedici GP8 will make its premiere. Stoner himself is still in the dark about when he will get on the new version of the 800cc machine.

Im not sure when I will be testing with the new bike, and I wont know until a time not long before we test it, explained the winner of ten races this season.

Joining Stoner in the Ducati garage for the first time was Marco Melandri and, although he has been pinpointed as a key rival for the current MotoGP World Champion, the 22 year-old is not just looking at internal challenges.

Nobody is going to lie down next year. Were all competitive riders in this championship. Ive always got on with Marco though, and this should be a good year, concluded Stoner.
