Onboard a Suzuki GSV-R for the first time at the beginning of the week, Loris Capirossi began his new challenge for the coming season on Tuesday and Wednesday in an intensive test at Valencia. In what must have come as a huge relief for the Italian, who struggled early in the 2007 season to adapt to 800cc riding, the former 250cc World Champion was on the pace straight away and clocking similar times to that of Sunday's race.

"I'm really happy. I've had two days with the team and I have a really good feeling; we are working so well," said Capirossi on Wednesday afternoon. "Today we just tried some different settings with engine management and engine braking, but we didn't use anything new because this was all Chris (Vermeulen)'s work."

Capirossi only used the 2007 GSV-R, with a black fairing adorned with his trademark ‘Babbo a bordo' motif. However, team-mate Vermeulen threw his leg over the 2008 machine for the first time at the Spanish circuit, and passed on his views to the man with whom he will share the garage next season.

"Chris says that the 2008 bike is already better than this years," explained an excited Capirossi. "The next test in Sepang is definitely where we will be using the new model."
