With 15 World titles to his name MotoGP Legend Giacomo Agostini is the most successful competitor in the history of Grand Prix racing and this week the Italian hero has given his views on the current Ducati and Casey Stoner success story.

Dominant in the premier class on Italian machinery with MV Agusta in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when asked if the success of new World Champion Stoner in his first season at Ducati had surprised him, Agostini replied: "No, but they had a good bike. The Ducati engineers were very good, the rider was good and the tyres were excellent. They deserved to win because they got everything right."

With regard to the new MotoGP title holder himself, Agostini commented: "Stoner is a good world champion and has something special. He's young but is married, has a great motorbike and that gives you confidence. Naturally Ducati gave him everything he needs to win."

However, when asked if Stoner reminded him of himself, the former World Champion highlighted the differences between his heyday and the modern era, saying simply: "I don't know, but what I can say is that after buying my first bike I finished second in my first race against 40 other riders."
