No regrets for Capirossi

Fresh from his first test onboard the 2007 Suzuki GSV-R800, and his first encounter with the team for whom he will fly the flag next season in MotoGP, Loris Capirossi returned to his native Italy to add to the World Championship representation at EICMA. The veteran may have had a bittersweet final season with Ducati but, as he explained at the motorshow, 2007 was also the year of a particular highpoint.

Capirossi became a father shortly after the second round of the season at Jerez, a very special moment for the former 250cc World Champion.

"It's the best thing that's ever happened to me; Riccardo is fantastic," enthused Capirossi. "He came to the last race of the season, but I honestly hope that he does something else in life. There's already one rider in the family, and that's enough."

Although the Italian fell just short of bringing the MotoGP World Championship to Ducati during his long tenure with the team, he undoubtedly played a huge part in the development of the 2007 title-winning Desmosedici GP7. Always one for a positive word about World Champion Casey Stoner, Capirossi expressed his delight for the factory's dream season at EICMA.

"Stoner won the title, but I'm happy for Ducati. I was with them for a long time and I'm proud that I helped them develop the winning bike," he said, before turning his attention to new Suzuki team-mate Chris Vermeulen.

"Vermeulen is the third Australian that I've ridden with. First I was team-mates with Troy Bayliss, then Casey and now Chris. The Aussies are tough nuts and never give up."

Capirossi is expected to debut onboard the 2008 Suzuki, with which he will contest next year's World Championship season, in Malaysia at the end of the week.
