World Champion Casey Stoner had his 2007 MotoGP achievements acknowledged this week by the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano when the Ducati team were officially received in Rome.

President Napolitano and his Prime Minister Romano Prodi invited the World Championship winning factory and MotoGP king Stoner to the Italian capital on Thursday - with the delegation enjoying a close up view of the Ducati Desmosedici GP7 painted in the colours of the Italian flag, as used in the final round of the season at Valencia.

Stoner was delighted to be in such exalted company after the reception, commenting: "It was an honour and a privilege to meet the Italian President, because my link with this country is so strong. My team is Italian and I have a special bond with them and with Ducati, after a season in which they gave me the confidence to achieve the results which we managed to get this year. To become World Champion was always my dream and now it has become reality."
