Simon to ride for new Repsol KTM team in 2008

Next year's 250cc World Championship will see Julian Simon riding for a newly formed Repsol KTM team, under the guidance of Alberto Puig.

The 20 year-old rider ran in the colours of Spanish sponsors Repsol on Honda machinery during the 2007 season, but with Japanese giant Honda shifting the focus increasingly towards the premier class and KTM expanding their project for 2008 it is a logical move for the Spaniard.

It is a return to the Austrian manufacturer for Simon who competed on KTM bikes in 2005 and 2006 in the 125cc class and he can expect the same level of support - with official machinery – as enjoyed by Hiroshi Aoyama and Mika Kallio in the existing Red Bull KTM 250cc team.

In the single cylinder class Puig will also oversee the progress of Esteve Rabat and new arrival Marc Marquez in a KTM 125cc outfit – 14 year-old Marquez having made his name this year in the Buckler CEV (Spanish national) championship.

Former 125cc World Champion Emilio Alzamora will work with the team in his continued role as mentor to Marquez, as the youngster makes his World Championship debut.

The 2008 KTM teams will test in Jerez early next week.
