New Yamaha Tech3 rider Colin Edwards left the Sepang circuit in good spirits on Saturday having set the second fastest time of the day and having thoroughly enjoyed riding an updated Yamaha M1 bike.

Edwards' best time of 2'01.811 took a healthy 1.202s chunk off his best lap from the race in Malaysia earlier this year and the experienced Texan rider was happy with the progress being made with his Yamaha package.

"I just feel comfortable," he revealed, "I mean the bike is such a pleasure and such a joy to ride, whereas I ended the year (season) and I couldn't wait to get off the bike. Now it feels good again. The spec engine I'm on is from the beginning of the year and to be competitive with that spec engine shows what they've done with the electronics and what they've done with chassis stuff."

The 33 year-old from Houston tested a number of race tyres for Michelin and felt that the French tyre firm had taken a step forward in terms of improving their competitiveness following a tough season.

"They've have been working hard," said Edwards on Michelin's progress, "and it's noticeable. We come here and they have a bunch of new stuff for us to try and I think some new ideas and that's what it's all about."
