A group of 23 riders from the 250cc and 125cc World Championship classes returned to action on Monday for the first of three days of testing in Jerez.

The quarter litre category provided the majority of those on track in southern Spain, with 15 riders putting in laps. Hiroshi Aoyama clocked the fastest time of the day, a 1'44.330 lap nearly half a second quicker than KTM team-mate Mika Kallio.

The day was notable for the return to action of former World Champion Manuel Poggiali. Another interesting return of sorts was Julian Simon undertaking his first laps on his KTM comeback, with his Repsol-sponsored team having made the switch to Austrian machinery public last week.

There were light crashes for Alvaro Bautista and Mattia Pasini over the course of the day.

World Champion Gabor Talmacsi led the way in the 125cc class, making his first appearance since winning the title at Valencia. He asserted his authority with a 1'47.907 marker, ahead of team-mate Sergio Gadea. Additional points of note included Mike di Meglio's first run onboard the RSA machine, and Esteve Rabat and Pablo Nieto's KTM RR 125 debuts.
