Poggiali returns with Campetella Racing

Former 125cc and 250cc World Champion Manuel Poggiali has confirmed his quarter litre comeback in 2008, under the Campetella Racing banner.

Former 125cc and 250cc World Champion Manuel Poggiali has confirmed his quarter litre comeback in 2008, under the Campetella Racing banner. The 24 year-old was an absentee from the grid in 2007, taking the season off and devoting his time to other projects.

Poggiali will be racing an Aprilia LE, sharing a garage with 2007's Best Privateer Fabrizio Lai. The choice of machine is a poignant one for the San Marino native; it is the same make onboard which he rode to glory five seasons ago.

"I'm very happy to return to racing!" says a jubilant Poggiali. "I look forward to pitting my strength against my opponents onboard an Aprilia bike with which I won the World Title in 2003".

Eros Braconi, team manager for Campetella Racing, also expressed his pleasure with the acquisition of Poggiali to his team's ranks.

"We are very satisfied with this agreement as we feel that Manuel is a first class rider who has a lot to offer. We are convinced that together we can have a good season, with plenty of good results".

Poggiali's record includes five wins in the 250cc class from 45 starts.
