Cecchinello talks up satellite team progress

LCR Honda newcomer Randy de Puniet may have suffered a Sepang crash which led to an injured thumb, but the Frenchman could still be content with his second ride for Lucio Cecchinello's satellite team after clocking some impressive times with his Michelin-shod RC212V.

Assessing the performance of his rider, with whom he has previously worked in the 250cc category in 2003 and 2004, Team Director Cecchinello stated, "we are happy with Randy; he is still in the learning stage but this test has been positive."

"He had a crash when he was trying different suspensions and tyres, but these things happen and are fairly normal," added the Italian, playing down any fears over De Puniet's Saturday setback.

Whilst no satellite teams were able to take MotoGP victories last season, some strong additions to their ranks for 2008 may see the likes of LCR Honda turning things around for the non-factory outfits. Cecchinello is certain that next season will be as highly competitive as any with the amount of talent on the grid.

"It will definitely be a very competitive year, there are satellite teams on the up and ready to challenge the factory teams," concluded the former 125cc and 250cc rider.
