Elias femur surgery postponed

Toni Elias yesterday visited the specialist clinic in Barcelona where he has received ongoing treatment on his injured left leg, to assess whether or not he is ready to have the metal supports removed from the femur bone which was badly broken earlier this year.

The surgeon who has treated Elias since his high-speed crash at Assen in June, Doctor Xavier Mir, examined the Catalan rider and after studying x-rays of the bone decided that it is still too early to remove the plates and screws. A decision on when to operate will now be taken in a few months time.

However, Elias could still yet go under the knife this week, as he is to have an additional examination tomorrow (Thursday) to look at the possibility of an operation to relieve the chronic pain he suffers around his left collarbone, which was damaged in an accident two years ago.
