Rossi heart helmet put up for auction for worthy cause

MotoGP safety equipment manufacturer Dainese are putting Valentino Rossi's AGV helmet from the 2007 Grand Prix at Mugello up for auction, and the former five-time MotoGP World Champion will be personally presenting the prize to the highest bidder.

As of tomorrow, visitors to either dainese.com or online auction site ebay.it will be able to place their bid for the helmet, which features a unique ‘heart' design used by the Italian only at his home race. Proceeds from the auction will benefit non-profit organisation ‘Un sogno per il Gaslini Onlus', who specialise in helping those at Gaslini Children's Hospital and whose latest project is the construction of a new accommodation centre for the facility.

Notoriously superstitious about memorabilia from his racing career, Rossi's donation is a huge coup for Dainese's efforts. The auctioning of his leathers last year raised over 70,000 euros for the Gaslini hospital.

Fans have until next Tuesday to place their bids for the helmet, of which only three were ever made. Rossi will deliver it in person to the winner at the beginning of December.
