KTM test superiority boosts Kallio expectations

Topping the timesheets after a rather sporadic test in Jerez this week, Mika Kallio continued the good form which saw him end his rookie season with a second Grand Prix victory at Valencia.

The Finnish KTM rider's lap of 1'44.213 was doubly positive for Kallio; not only did it make him the fastest rider at the Spanish circuit, but it also came at what has traditionally been a track where Aprilia have dominated in the past.

"We were in front of the Aprilias over the three days, which is good because even in the race earlier this year we weren't as quick as them," said Kallio, referring to himself and team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama.

"We have a new chassis now, and the new parts are looking like being positive for next season," added the Finn, who is one of the favourites for the 250cc World Championship – following the departure of Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Dovizioso and Alex de Angelis to MotoGP.

"We have to believe that we can win the title. Now things seem good. At the moment it is enough that we are ahead in the tests, but we definitely have to improve further for the races," concluded the twice 125cc class runner-up.
