Locatelli reflects on first Jerez visit since horror crash

Last week's testing sessions in Jerez had additional importance for one rider in particular, as Roberto Locatelli returned to the scene of his 2007 horror crash for the first time.

The Metis Gilera rider spent an extended period on the sidelines after a high speed collision with a protective barrier, a crash suffered during practice for the second round of the 2007 250cc World Championship in March.

The Italian made a miraculous return to action at Le Mans under two months later, having undergone extensive surgery on foot and facial injuries, but had until this week stayed away from the Circuito de Jerez.

"It was strange returning here after the crash, which affected me for a long time," said the former 125cc World Champion. "I stopped at the scene of the accident when going round on my scooter to have another look, but now I have no worries; I still believe that the track is one of the most beautiful in the world."

Locatelli will be one of the riders using a 2008 RS Aprilia for next season's campaign, and his work during the week was concentrated on getting up to speed with this latest model.
