Although not immediately amongst the frontrunners in post-season testing, Ducati Marlboro newcomer Marco Melandri is not overly concerned by his performances at tests in Valencia and Jerez. The Italian this week tried out the Desmosedici GP8 for the first time and, whilst he was nearly three seconds off the pace set by fastest rider Dani Pedrosa, was not focusing his attentions on the timesheets.

"It's been a good test, but pretty difficult for me," explained Melandri. "I am trying to find the best position for myself on the bike, but we still didn't get there.

"I tried to adapt the bike to my riding style this week, and we still have a lot of work to do with this. We've found something that looks pretty good, but there still needs to be some improvement for the future," he continued, before emphasising the need for patience in the adaptation process.

"In January we can be a little bit more clear about things, so right now we're just taking things step-by-step," concluded the former 250cc World Champion.
