After a frustrating time in 2007 Shinya Nakano will face next year's campaign with renewed enthusiasm after some pleasing end of season tests with new team Honda Gresini.

Moving on from Konica Minolta Honda the Japanese rider will partner MotoGP rookie Alex de Angelis in a new line-up for Fausto Gresini's team in 2008, following the departure of Marco Melandri and Toni Elias to pastures new elsewhere in the World Championship paddock.

In fifth place on the Jerez timesheet on the final day of 2007 testing last week in Andalucia, Nakano believes that the success of his predecessors in his new team is helping him to look more competitive already. The 30 year-old explained: "The setting is different and with the Honda Gresini team Marco Melandri and Toni Elias had some good races last season and it seems like they have a good base setting."

"So far I have a really good feeling with the team," he continued. "I mean the bike is almost the same as this year's model but with Bridgestone tyres and I've found quite a good balance, maybe because the tyres suit my style."

"After the Valencia race we tested for one and a half days and straight away the result was positive. Now we have had three days in Jerez and we've done some quite good lap times so I'm happy about this."
