Bartholemy comments on new additions to Kawasaki team

Kawasaki Racing's Competition Manager Michael Bartholemy has given the team's late 2007 activity a positive review following the recruitment of MotoGP hot property John Hopkins and respected mechanic Juan Martinez.

The affable Belgian team boss was particularly pleased with Hopkins' efforts in the three post-season visits to Valencia, Sepang and Jerez, commenting: "We are quite happy about these tests with John. Valencia was the first time he had a go on our bike and to go from a bike like he had before to a bike with an inline engine was not easy. It was quite a big step."

"But from Sepang onwards we've seen that he is fast, he gives a lot of information to the team and I think we're improving every day."

Speaking exclusively to motogp.com Bartholemy also assessed Anthony West's first campaign with the team and explained that he hopes to help the Australian push on to the next level of performance in 2008.

With regard to Kawasaki's plans for the introduction of new machinery for next season Bartholemy interestingly explained that he and his staff are happy with the 2007 Ninja ZX-RR and that it will be continually updated throughout the 2008 season – rather than the team re-starting with a brand new prototype as is the policy elsewhere in the paddock.

Explaining the thought process behind the recruitment of Martinez, who has previously worked with the likes of Valentino Rossi and Sete Gibernau at Honda and Ducati, Bartholemy said: "Juan is someone I wanted to work with because of his suspension and chassis experience."

"I think at the moment our engine situation is quite stable so I was really looking for somebody that could give us some help and experience in these areas of the bike and Juan is one of the best people that you could find in the paddock."
