Melandri enjoys Bologna outing

Marco Melandri took part in the Eurotouring competition at the Bologna Motor Show this weekend, the new Ducati Marlboro recruit battling against some experienced opponents in tricky weather conditions.

The 25 year-old Italian MotoGP star did not make it through to the final of the Eurotouring tournament - but there was no shame in his performance as the competition was tough, due to the wet track and a field including former F1 drivers and Touring Car experts such as Gabriele Tarquini and Nicola Larini.

"As a child I used to come at the Motor Show and spend hours watching the races," said Melandri. "Now being part of it is great. The Eurotouring drive was good, it went well in the dry but was a bit more tricky in the wet."

Following his stint in the ETCC version of the 156 Alfa Romeo, he stated: "I really enjoyed driving the car, it's quite a change when you're a rider. Driving it at the Motor Show only made the experience even more special. I came here to have fun, there's no pressure. It's all about the crowd and taking part in the event."

Commenting on his new team Ducati's exhibition event on Saturday, meanwhile, Melandri added: "Joining Ducati is a dream come true. I watched Vitto Guareschi doing the demonstration run on the GP7 and that was excellent. I just hope it will be my turn to do it next year!"

The 32nd edition of the Bologna Motor Show (the International Automobile Exhibition), is being held at BolognaFiere from 7th to 16th December.
