Thai Honda PTT SAG launch 2008 effort

In the luxurious surroundings of the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday, Thai Honda PTT SAG hosted their official 2008 team presentation, with their 250cc starlet Ratthapark `Film´ Wilairot signing his contract for the second season of his World Championship adventure next year.

The team also formally unveiled Wilairot's 2008 machinery – an official RSW Honda, developed by the Japanese manufacturer for the quarter litre class.

The presentation in the Thai capital took place in front of selected guests and journalists.

Senior staff of A.P. Honda, led by President Zenjiro Sakurai, and members of the Barcelona-based MotoGP team, owned and managed by Eduardo Perales, gathered to agree a new deal and unveil the livery Wilairot will use next year.

Amongst local authority delegates and business partners present, the Thai Governor for Sports Development and the President of the Thai Motorcycling Federation also attended the event - alongside representatives of oil company PTT and Thai Airways, who have been joined by telecommunications firm AIS as main sponsors of the team.

A.P. Honda President Zenjiro Sakurai commented: "Honda believes that Ratthapark's participation in the 2008 World Grand Prix will enhance Thailand's reputation as well as showcase Film's unique talents and skill at international level. We hope that all Thai people will cheer Ratthapark and support him to achieve greater success."

Meanwhile, Eduardo Perales, head of the Spanish-based Thai Honda PTT SAG team, added: "We're back in Bangkok for the second consecutive year, which clearly proves A.P. Honda place their faith in us after getting good results with Ratthapark in his first season."

"We want to keep working at this level so we can offer our rider the chance to be one of the best performers in the World Championship next year. That would be the best way to pay back all our partners in Thailand for their support, as Ratthapark's first GP season raised a lot of interest over here."

After his impressive rookie Grand Prix campaign in 2007, in which he amassed 30 points in the 250cc category as Thailand's first ever MotoGP representative, Wilairot will be keen to increase that points tally on improved machinery in the coming season.

Having earlier this week received the 2007 Best Professional Sportsman Award from The Sports Authority of Thailand, the 19 year-old stated at Wednesday's presentation: "I'm very proud to have the backing of A.P. Honda, of the Thai authorities and the team sponsors. I believe we did a good job in 2007 and I know this support will help us to keep improving and make sure our performances match the expectations all our partners have for me and the team."
