German rider Sandro Cortese was one of the standouts of the 125cc race at Sepang last weekend, but did not get the result that reflected his efforts, after a crash two corners from the finish.

The Emmi - Caffe Latte Aprilia man had experienced the best qualifying session of his career at the Malaysian circuit, putting himself on the front row for the first time.

A race-long battle with the group bunched up behind runaway winner Gabor Talmacsi followed, before a heartbreaking finale after being hit by Mattia Pasini.

"The whole race was pretty good; I had a perfect start, was able to ride with the leading group, but then on the last lap Pasini touched me and I couldn't do anything once the rear went out from under me," said an exhausted Cortese after the race. "The corner was already coming up once he went in on me, so I was a bit unlucky there."

Philosophical about what had been a superb weekend up until the final seconds of the Sunday race, the Cortese looked ahead to the final round of the championship, after which he will receive a new bike for 2008.

"The entire weekend was good for me; warm-up, qualifying and practices, so I'm looking forward to doing the same in Valencia."

"I will stay with the same team next year, with an Aprilia RSA. I'm looking forward to having a new bike."
