Still in with a slim chance of leaving 250cc for MotoGP as the World Champion at the penultimate round of the season before falling victim to an unfortunate crash, Andrea Dovizioso was more disappointed with his race result than the seemingly inevitable title defeat.

Although resigned to the fact that his options of becoming 2007 250cc World Champion were too slim to be a real possibility, Dovizioso was racing for pride in Sepang last weekend. The Italian led the race in the early stages onboard his Kopron Team Scot Honda, but by the midway point had been caught by persistent 250cc rival and eventual title winner Jorge Lorenzo.

From there, an entertaining battle between that pair and the KTM duo of Mika Kallio and the ultimately victorious Hiroshi Aoyama took place - before a risky move by Kallio sent Dovizioso crashing out of contention for a podium spot.

"I'm really gutted, because, even if I knew that Lorenzo was going to win the World Championship, today I wanted the victory," said the former 125cc World Champion.

"I'm more disappointed about the race result than the title. It was about my possibility to fight with Lorenzo, and I tried to break away as much as I could until the tyres started to go off."

"At that point we started the battle; there were some points in which he was able to create a gap, and others in which I beat him when braking, but we were almost on the last lap and the finale was all set for the last corner before the straight," he added, before giving his take on the incident between himself and Kallio.

"Kallio went wide and in order to straighten up he pushed me off: these are things that happen in a race, but the fact that it was today and on this circuit really hurts a lot. We have been unlucky as it happened other times this year, and we have to accept it even if it isn't easy."
