The Red Bull MotoGP Academy had cause for celebration following a fantastic third place for Japanese rider Takaaki Nakagami in the fourth CEV (Spanish National Championship) race of the season, last weekend at Valencia.

Nakagami's memorable result is the first podium for the Red Bull MotoGP Academy in the 2007 CEV season, the first CEV podium achieved by Nakagami as an Academy student and the best ever finish by a Japanese rider in the Spanish Championship.

However, it was not all good news from the Spanish circuit as another of the Academy riders, Germany's Jonas Folger, was involved in an accident caused by an opponent which left him with an injured hand.

Folger was hurt after he crashed when being pressured by Marc Márquez as the pair occupied fourth and fifth places respectively, withdrawing from the race with metacarpal fractures in his left hand – injuries that will prevent him from participating in an IDM race next weekend as scheduled.

The medical staff assessing Folger believe he should be able to return to racing in the IDM race at Most (Czech Republic) on 2nd September.

Meanwhile also present at Valencia was a third Red Bull MotoGP Academy rider, Marcel Schrötter, another German competitor and a regular IDM participant, whose CEV debut saw him impressively cross the line 15th to earn a valuable point.

The Red Bull MotoGP Academy riders return to action in mid-September to participate a Catalan Championship round which will also take place in Valencia.
