Kawasaki Racing have issued a firm denial of press reports linking them with Spaniard Fonsi Nieto, making clear that they have not spoken to the former 250cc runner-up about any kind of role within the team.

Rumours first circulated about Superbike rider Nieto's participation as a test rider in the Spanish press, with quotes attributed to the 28 year old stating that he was helping develop the 800cc and would be pushing for a wild card appearance, but a Kawasaki spokesman quickly played down any link.

"The Kawasaki Racing Team have had no contact with Fonsi Nieto with regard to assisting with the development of Kawasaki's Ninja ZX-RR. Nor have we discussed with him or his management the possibility of wild card rides for Kawasaki in MotoGP this season.

We have every confidence in the ability of Randy de Puniet and Olivier Jacque to develop and race our new 800cc Ninja ZX-RR this season, assisted by our Japanese test and development rider, Naoki Matsudo.

Of course, as a five time 250cc Grands Prix race winner, Fonsi Nieto would be a strong contender for the position should we need to temporarily replace an injured rider this season, although we do have other options open to us."

Kawasaki test this week at the Official Test at Qatar, looking to push the development of their new bike to the next level ahead of the first race of the season.
