LCR Honda rookie Eugene Laverty heads to uncharted territory next week for an unfamiliar Grand Prix experience.

LCR Honda rookie Eugene Laverty heads to uncharted territory next week for an unfamiliar Grand Prix experience. The Northern Irishman, who racked up his first World Championship points last time round at Jerez, faces in Istanbul Park a circuit where he has never even tested, let alone raced.

However, the 20 year old from Toombridge has shown himself to be unfazed by the new challenges presented to him since his move from the British Supersport championship, and Laverty is continually improving in both his understanding of the 250cc kit Honda and his new team. LCR Team Manager Lucio Cecchinello recently gave a glowing review of his rider's start to the season, and the general mood in the Honda satellite camp is positive at the beginning of this long-term collaboration.

"My season has gotten off to a steady start with an 18th position at Losail and 14th at Jerez," comments Laverty as he reviews his first two races in the quarter litre class. "Round 1 was quite difficult as Losail was a new circuit to me, so I was happy just to achieve my first 250cc race finish. I'd suffered problems with the front suspension at Losail but we managed to cure them at Jerez".

"Unfortunately I had a very big crash in practice which set me back a little but I made a great start to the race and eventually finished in the points. I'm beginning to understand the 250cc machine now and also my relationship with my mechanics is getting better all the time. The next few rounds could prove slightly more difficult than Jerez as the circuits are all new to me but I'm relishing the challenge. I have achieved my first points scoring finish so now I know what I'm capable of and my aim is to become a regular top 15 finisher".

Lucio Cecchinello's latest protégé will have his first chance to get to grips with the Istanbul Park circuit at the first free practice session on April 20th.
