In a moment that brought a stunned silence to Phillip Island during the 250cc qualifying session, Roberto Locatelli was laid prone on the gravel after a huge highside. The Italian, who suffered an horrific crash earlier on in the season at Jerez which left him requiring facial surgery and operations on his leg, was stretchered off as the session was red flagged, heading straight to the Clinica Mobile.

After being assessed by Dr. Claudio Costa, no serious injuries to Locatelli were discovered, and with a combination of massage and painkilling treatments the Metis Gilera man should take his position of thirteenth on the grid tomorrow.
