MotoGP title holder Casey Stoner (Ducati Marlboro) got the final weekend of his remarkable World Championship winning season off to a good start with the fastest time in the Friday morning free practice run-out at the Gran Premio bwin.com de la Comunitat Valenciana.

The young Australian was a sizeable 0.679s quicker than his nearest rival Marco Melandri (Honda Gresini), who will be joining him in the Ducati factory team next season.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) was third on the timesheet, while Alex Barros (Pramac d'Antin) showed good pace in fourth as he begins his last Grand Prix weekend.

Chris Vermeulen (Rizla Suzuki) and Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha) were fifth and sixth respectively, with Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda), Loris Capirossi (Ducati Marlboro), Colin Edwards (Fiat Yamaha) and John Hopkins (Rizla Suzuki) completing the top ten.
