Ducati open 2008 with annual ‘Wrooom' event

More than just a presentation of the new-look Ducati Marlboro team and their Desmosedici GP8, the 2007 MotoGP Team World Champions today kick off the new year with their annual five-day ‘Wrooom' press ski meeting at the Madonna di Campiglio resort.

More than just a presentation of the new-look Ducati Marlboro team and their Desmosedici GP8, the 2007 MotoGP Team World Champions today kick off the new year with their annual five-day ‘Wrooom' press ski meeting at the Madonna di Campiglio resort.

The iced lakes and breathtaking Italian backdrop will play host to the official unveiling of MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner and Ducati newcomer Marco Melandri in the factory team, with the two riders holding a joint press conference tomorrow for the gathered media.

Ducati Corse CEO and Product General Director for Ducati Motor Holding Claudio Domenicali will also take to the stand to answer questions on the team and the new Desmosedici GP8, which will be publicly displayed for the first time at ‘Wrooom', on Wednesday.

Customarily held in conjunction with the presentation of Formula 1 team Ferrari, the event is sure to also spring up a few surprise interactions between the squadrons of the two and four-wheeled variety before drawing to a close on Friday.

Having become the second youngest premier class champion of all time last year Stoner was recently voted MotoGP's Man of the Year by readers of the prominent Italian publication Motosprint and the Aussie star will receive his award from the magazine this week in Italy.

"It's a very nice feeling to have an award that was voted by the fans and I'm amazed at the number of people who have taken an interest in what I have achieved with Ducati last season. It was team effort," Stoner said.

"Winning the World Championship was my childhood dream and Valentino was one of my idols, who I now get to race against."

Stoner was also voted Man of the Year by two further mass circulation motorcycle weeklies - Motorcycle News in the UK and the German language MotorsportAktuell, which covers both F1 and MotoGP.
