The opening day of Ducati Marlboro's annual ‘Wrooom' event took place yesterday at the Madonna di Campiglio ski resort in Italy, with members of the 2007 Teams World Championship winning squadron in attendance alongside some new additions.

One of the newcomers to the Borgo Panigale factory team, Marco Melandri was the first to get into the spirit of the occasion with a cross country skiing session. A quick learner, the Italian avoided any impromptu falls in front of the gathered media and was decked out in Ducati uniform for the first time since his joining the factory team.

Arriving in style by helicopter, MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner joined the proceedings a short while later. The Australian, on the comeback trail after a shoulder injury accrued at the final test of 2007, elected against joining his new team-mate on the piste, instead getting behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo sports car with wife Adriana en route to the official opening ceremony of Wrooom2008.

Both riders checked out the title-winning Ducati Desmosedici GP7 brought to the event, specially modified with snow tyres for a star turn later on in the evening. After an on-stage presentation, Ducati test rider Vittoriano Guareschi wowed the crowd with an exceptional display of balance onboard the 800cc machine, navigating the slippery surface of Madonna di Campiglio's iced lake.

Footage from yesterday's opening day at Wrooom, along with that from each of the five-day stay at the resort, is available on motogp.com.
