Ahead of the opening test of 2008 at Sepang, Fiat Yamaha will officially present the 800cc M1 at the teams launch in Italy, on January 18th.

Long-standing factory Yamaha rider and five-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi will be joined by new team-mate and reigning 250cc World Champion Jorge Lorenzo at the event, which takes place in the Auditorium Giovanni Agnelli of main sponsor Fiat´s home town of Turin.

The only on-track appearance made by the complete Fiat Yamaha team after the final race of 2007 came at Jerez in late November, with Rossi previously sidelined with a hand injury. Whilst the test was a chance to see the Italian riding for the first time since his switch to Bridgestone tyres (in contrast to Lorenzo´s association with Michelin) neither rider was using a full version of the 2008 M1.

The most interesting development of the new Yamaha machine is likely to be the nature of the engine, with top speed something sure to be addressed in an attempt to put both riders on a par with Casey Stoner´s Ducati Desmosedici GP8. Rossi has previously debuted a new pneumatic valve motor at Motegi last year, the race where Stoner finally laid The Doctors title challenge to rest.
