Emmi - Caffe Lattes diligent Swiss rider Thomas Luthi has been putting in the hard graft over the winter break as he looks to start the new season on top form.

The affable 21 year-old has been notching up the hours at the gym in order to maintain the highest fitness levels possible and is also undertaking an intensive language course to improve his Italian, in the beautiful surroundings of Florence.

The 2005 125cc World Champion was a quarter litre class rookie in 2007 and finished eighth in the general standings a position he will hope to improve upon this season following the departure of big guns Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Dovizioso and Alex de Angelis to MotoGP.

Already a competent English speaker, better communication with his team management and the mechanics as a result of his Italian homework may be a contributing factor to stronger results in Luthis second 250cc campaign, as he continues on Aprilia machinery.

Meanwhile Luthis Emmi - Caffe Latte colleague Sandro Cortese, the teenage German 125cc rider, celebrated his 18th birthday last weekend, with several of the teams members present at the party in Berkheim, southern Germany, where Cortese resides.
