Hector Faubel, the 125cc runner-up in 2007 who moves into 250cc this year, and Team Manager Jorge Martinez Aspar were yesterday awarded imaginatively named Pinguinos de Oro (lit. Golden Penguins) prizes at the 27th edition of the motorcycle awards ceremony.

Faubel was the unanimous choice for a riders prize, owing to success achieved in 2007, through which he became 125cc runner-up. He took to the stage alongside his equally successful Team Manager, who was recognised for his 125cc & 250cc outfits outstanding success over the past two seasons.

Event organisers Turismoto estimated attendance at the Pinguinos de Oro to have been in the region of 50,000 over the course of the weekend at Simancas, Spain, further illustrating the drawing power of MotoGPs lower cylinder categories.
