After a rigorous selection process, 23 young riders have been chosen to compete in this year's maiden edition of the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies cup, a companion of sorts to the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup series debuted in 2007.

The near-two dozen successful applicants hail from a total of six countries and seven distinct North American states, and made up just a small percentage of those to have put their name forward for participation in the 2008 series. More than 600 riders between the ages of 13 and 16 responded to the open invitation of assessment, with 104 deemed suitable for the official Selection Event at Alabama's Barber Motorsports Park.

All of the riders were comprehensively evaluated by 1993 500cc World Champion and Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup rider coach Kevin Schwantz, renowned flat track instructor Danny Walker, former MotoGP team owner and paddock insider Peter Clifford and Red Bull MotoGP Rookies rider coach and multiple Grand Prix winner Gustl Auinger.

Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup races will run alongside select AMA Superbike events, in addition to a MotoGP appearance at the fourth Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. Two special showdowns between the top riders from the U.S. and European series, dubbed the Red Bull Riders Cup, will take place at MotoGP's visits to Indianapolis and Valencia.
