Hayden gets early Laguna Seca run-out

2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden was back on track this week in Laguna Seca, the circuit at which he emerged victorious from the first two Red Bull U.S. Grands Prix.

However, the Repsol Honda rider was not onboard the 800cc RC212V undergoing further development in time for the opening test of the year in Sepang, but instead a CBR 1000RR production sport machine. The bike was being officially unveiled at the American circuit, and ‘The Kentucky Kid' took advantage of his presence at the event to take to the track for his first Laguna ride of the year.

‘Trick Daddy' shared the asphalt with AMA Superbike riders Miguel Duhamel and Neil Hodgson, both of whom he has competed against in MotoGP. Duhamel was a participant in last year's race in California with Gresini Honda, although this time both he and former d'Antin Ducati rider Hodgson were back on superbike machinery for a preseason test. Hayden was happy to join the duo for a fun few laps.

"I was in Southern California, so it was real easy to come up here," explained Hayden. "We got some great weather so I came out here, did a couple laps."

"Laguna Seca, obviously, has a special place in my heart. Honda is launching their new bike here so we came, hung out, and did some laps," concluded the American, who is back in action next week in Sepang when the serious work of winning back his crown resumes.
