Jorge Lorenzos move into MotoGP as the 250cc World Champion this season, with Fiat Yamaha, is the fulfilment of a lifetime ambition and the young Spaniard was in a buoyant mood at his new teams official 2008 launch event on Friday.

After appearing on stage with his new Yamaha M1 800c prototype, alongside new team-mate Valentino Rossi in Turin, Lorenzo enthused: Today´s a special day for us and I am really enjoying it. Since I started racing, my goal has been to get into the premier class with a factory team, so today´s like a dream come true.

Regarding his initial findings in the tests he undertook with his new employers before Christmas, Lorenzo added: The Yamaha bike can be sensitive, you have to be smooth and very precise, but it has gone pretty well for me so far. For sure making the step from 250cc to MotoGP was not easy.

I struggled a bit at first. When we tested in Malaysia it was hard because I had to get used to the difference with MotoGP and a 250cc bike, where you brake early to get good corner speed. It´s the opposite in MotoGP, as you have to brake as late as possible and open the throttle early. In Jerez it was much better as I changed a few things.

Looking ahead to his MotoGP debut season Lorenzo concluded: I want to make progress throughout the year and hopefully there will be quite a difference between the first and the last races of the season. I can´t really predict anything for this year, the future is always unknown but you have to remain open-minded and, as they say, nothing is impossible.
