Suzuki to show 2008 novelties in Sepang

Looking to reinforcements to aid development of the 2008 GSV-R800, Rizla Suzuki will line-up test rider Nobuatsu Aoki alongside the regular pairing of Chris Vermeulen and Loris Capirossi for their first test of the year, which takes place next week in Sepang.

The Malaysian test will be the first complete look at Suzuki's image for 2008, with the final pieces of the year's jigsaw coming into place at the same time. Capirossi, who tested with the team in a plain black livery at the end of last year, is now free to don the distinctive aqua-marine blue of Paul Denning's MotoGP squadron on both his bike and leathers, whilst Suzuki mainstay Vermeulen will finally be running the crossed seven plate for which he has been patiently awaiting for two years.

"I can't wait to get back on the bike and start testing again. We made really good progress during the tests at the end of last year and I have been in constant touch with my Crew Chief Tom O'Kane, and from what we have been told the bike is looking good for this season," notes Vermeulen, whose last test of 2007 came at his home track of Phillip Island in a private affair alongside Capirossi.

"This is my third full year in MotoGP, so it is a very important time in my career; I need to be performing at the top of my game from the start," continued the Suzuki rider, carrying on with the team that gave him his full-season debut in 2006. "I believe I am in the right team and with the right bike and we can make a big impact in 2008!"

Capirossi was immediately impressive in preseason testing, adapting well to a machine significantly different to that developed to his specifications during his time with Ducati. The Italian is looking to continue dropping his times in Sepang, a track that provided difficulties for Suzuki last season.

"This is a great time to be with Suzuki; I believe that I have joined a team that is very much on the way up. I was pleased with the way the bike behaved in the tests last year and am very excited about what we will have to test in Sepang," says Capirossi.

"For sure it is not going to be easy this year as other teams will have improved their bikes, but I feel that we will be able to compete with anybody. We need to get into the tests and make sure we can get the best set-up and performance from the bike in time for the first race. You don't win races in tests but we have a good chance to make sure that we are in the best position to win them when the season starts by using these upcoming days to make every possible improvement that we can."
