The official presentation of Fiat Yamaha's 2008 MotoGP project took place in Turin, in northern Italy, on Friday, with Valentino Rossi and his new team-mate for the forthcoming season, Jorge Lorenzo, taking to the stage together alongside their respective new Yamaha M1 prototypes.

The riders were officially introduced to an excited crowd, with five-time premier class title winner Rossi sporting a new short hairstyle, similar to that of his new young colleague Lorenzo.

The sight of the two alongside each other may be a rare one this season, with the factory Yamaha garage partitioned to respect the secrecy of teams' rival tyre providers. Rossi's Bridgestone-shod Yamaha and Lorenzo's Michelin-kitted M1 were placed side by side for the presentation, with the hope that they will appear in the same position on the front row of the grid and in parc ferme regularly over the course of the new season.

At the launch, Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, commented, "The most important change to our team is the arrival of Jorge Lorenzo as Valentino Rossi's new team-mate. Our aim is to recapture the title and, as our most experienced rider, this is Valentino's clear mission. However we also expect Jorge to be fighting at the front as he gains experience."

"We have two multiple World Championship winning riders in our team and we believe we have optimum chance to realise our ambitions."

Fiat Yamaha will now move on to Malaysia with Rossi, Lorenzo and the rest of the 2008 MotoGP grid commencing their pre-season tests on Tuesday at Sepang.
