Timesheets no cause for concern on Alice Team return

The Alice Team have had a longer break than most of the outfits returning to riding today in Sepang, with only an initial test in Valencia immediately following the final race of 2007 in which to work together.

With a lack of familiarity, some discreet results were to be expected from new riders Toni Elias and Sylvain Guintoli, both of whom are working with an entirely new bike to that with which they have ridden in previous seasons. Elias in particular had the odds of topping the timesheets stacked against him, returning earlier than the comeback date recommended by doctors after undergoing shoulder surgery.

I would say that today went well. I wasnt even supposed to be here due to the shoulder operation I went through, but in the end I decided to come and things went well, revealed the Spaniard, who finished 17th on the timesheets after 55 laps.

I really like the bike and we are already at a good level. In the next two days we will try to adapt it even more to my riding style and lower the lap times registered today.

I have to admit that is never easy to begin working with new bike and tyres, added fellow Alice Team rider Sylvain Guintoli, himself more accustomed to both Yamaha machinery and Dunlop tyres.

We have a lot of work to do. I decided not to take any risks today; it wasnt our aim to check the lap time sheet. At this moment thats not what we are looking for, but the feeling with the bike is what we care about, and it is improving lap by lap. This first test of the year will be really useful to put in place a solid basis for the season which is about to begin.

The Frenchmans plans were emphasised by Alice Team Technical Director Fabiano Sterlacchini, who explained that specific work would begin tomorrow in Malaysia.

We are working to find the right setting for both riders. They have to adapt the bike to their riding style and this surely takes some time. Today we have worked a lot on the total package and from tomorrow we will also concentrate on trying different tyre solutions. The next two days will be really important for us.
