On a day free from the electrical problems which had caused a faltering start to his 2008 pre-season, Casey Stoner was focused on tyres on the second session of testing in Sepang. The MotoGP World Champion was able to go through a number of different compounds to gather data for Bridgestone, with the only downer being a clutch problem at the midway point of a race simulation that forced him to return to the garage.

"I had to do quite a few front tyres in morning, which took a lot of time," noted the Australian, still working towards full fitness after his shoulder injury suffered at Jerez.

"We found out some positive and not so positive things, but I think that what we take from here can improve the tyres for the next test."

Stoner was the winner of last year's Grand Prix in Sepang, and had a stunning start to 2007 after his first preseason with Ducati. When asked if a repeat of such form could be expected, he remained confident in his assessment.

"Everything seems to be going quite well, so as long as we can continue in the right direction with things like tyre testing then there's no reason why we can't start off as well as we did last year."
