Having a harder job than many riders on-track in Sepang, Alice Team's Sylvain Guintoli was riding the satellite Ducati machine with which he will undertake his sophomore season for only the second time this week. Having only ridden his new bike at the post-race test in Valencia last year, the visit to Malaysia was always going to be a learning experience for the Frenchman, although he was happy with his adaptation when speaking to motogp.com

"I was pretty slow, but that was to be expected," said Guintoli after undertaking 39 laps on the final day in sweltering heat. "My race simulation was much better than my performance in 2007, so I'm happy with that. Also I'm getting on well with my team, which you never know if it's going to be the case when you change teams."

Having not been on a bike since early last November, fitness was obviously going to be an issue for the satellite rider, making a 23 lap turn of the Malaysian track a satisfactory progression. It will be the last time that Guintoli rides in Sepang before practice sessions for the race begin on October 17th, with the Alice Team missing the second MotoGP test in south east Asia.

"We will be in Australia, Jerez and Qatar before the start of the season," explained Guintoli when quizzed about his testing schedule.
