‘Hit and miss' test for Hopkins

Picking up his pace on days two and three of the test in Sepang, John Hopkins' plans to feel at ease with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR appear to be going smoothly so far.

‘Team Green' had sent four riders to the Malaysian test; Hopkins, team-mate Anthony West and test riders Tamaki Serizawa & Olivier Jacque. Neither of the regular riders undertook any laps with the new screamer engine utilised by the testers, although that's not to say that they didn't have plenty of new parts to get through.

"This test was hit and miss; there were some ups and downs, some pros and cons, but that's testing," said Hopkins, who finished the test as the fifth fastest rider.

'I was pretty pleased with the first race simulation on the bike; the traction control works really well, so I didn't have to adapt my riding style so much to compensate for the drop off in grip as the tyres started to go off towards the end."

The Anglo-American has received plaudits for his adaptation to both bike and team since joining Kawasaki last November, and has in turn praised the atmosphere and personnel present in the garage.

"I'm getting on really well with the team. (Competition Manager) Michael Bartholemy in particular is a really straight up guy, and he knows what we need to make things good," said Hopkins, who will be back for more testing at Phillip Island from next Wednesday.
