Lorenzo frustrated in Sepang but remaining positive

Despite finishing the last day of the second Sepang test of 2008 on top of the timesheet, new Fiat Yamaha recruit Jorge Lorenzo left the Malaysian circuit slightly frustrated after struggling to make progress with the race set-up of his Yamaha M1.

Despite finishing the last day of the second Sepang test of 2008 on top of the timesheet, new Fiat Yamaha recruit Jorge Lorenzo left the Malaysian circuit slightly frustrated after struggling to make progress with the race set-up of his Yamaha M1.

The successful race simulation and continuously decreasing lap times which featured in Lorenzo's previous visit to the South East Asian venue in January were not repeated this week and the young Spaniard was even forced to abort an attempted race replication after just five laps on Thursday, due to a technical fault.

"We were unable to improve any part of the bike, apart from the anti-wheelie system which we tried yesterday and which gave us a little bit of an improvement," commented the 250cc double World Champion.

Preferring to look ahead to the MotoGP Official Test at the end of next week, rather than dwell on his Malaysian misfortune Lorenzo added: "We've tried a thousand things and none of them have been that good so maybe we need to forget about this test and think about the next one."

Another realistic, but similarly still positive assessment of the week in Malaysia came from Lorenzo's team manager Daniele Romagnoli who told motogp.com: "Progress from this preseason is very good. In total from the first five tests the first four were really good. Unfortunately this test was a little bit more difficult for Jorge."

"We tried different settings and tried to improve the bike, and we had some little improvements, but the test wasn't really positive. This is what can happen though, he is a young rider, things are new for him and overall we are really happy about how he is going."
