Pedrosa to ride with number two plate

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa will switch from his traditional number 26 for the 2008 season and will instead sport race number ‘2' for the forthcoming campaign, reflecting his position in the general standings at the end of last year.

The 2007 MotoGP World Championship runner-up, will proudly display the number 2 on his leathers and the bodywork of his Honda RC212V, with the digit also reminding fans of the pair of race victories he achieved last season.

Pedrosa of course snatched second place in the 2007 standings from Valentino Rossi in the final race of the championship, when he took his second victory of the year at Valencia last November.

Currently recovering quickly from a broken bone in his right hand, sustained in testing just over two weeks ago in Sepang, Pedrosa will of course be hoping that he only rides with his new number for one term – as the MotoGP title is his ultimate aim this season, and such an honour would permit him to use the number one plate in 2009.

Of course to realise that ambition will take plenty of hard work and a dash of luck, with Rossi and the current proud owner of the number one plate, reigning World Champion Casey Stoner, amongst a group of talented riders on the 2008 grid also aiming for the same goal.

Pedrosa hopes to return from injury for the MotoGP Official Test - which starts in Jerez next week on 16th February – in order to be ready for the first race of the year in Qatar under the floodlights at Losail on 9th March.
