The morning sessions of Thursday's final day of Sepang testing saw five-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi continue to set the pace in the Malaysian heat as he set down a marker of 2'01.190 on qualifying tyres before embarking on a race simulation.

With the 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden having departed on Wednesday, Rossi's Fiat Yamaha colleague Jorge Lorenzo was the first of the four 2008 MotoGP present riders to leave his pit-box this morning. The young Spaniard appeared shortly after 10am, following test riders Olivier Jacque (Kawasaki), Yoshihiko Fujiwara and Wataru Yoshikawa (both Yamaha) out onto the track.

It was not until 10.40am that Rossi and San Carlo Honda Gresini pair Shinya Nakano and Alex de Angelis joined their fellow attendees on track, with the ambient temperature soon reaching a scorching 38°C and ground temperature hitting 42°C.

Rossi's hot lap came on the 23rd of 46 completed at the 2pm mark, by which time the Italian star had also completed the majority of a race simulation with consistent laps at 2'01 and low 2'02 pace.

Testing is scheduled to continue until 6pm local time. A full report on the day's events and interviews from the Sepang paddock will be available later on motogp.com.
