Barbera happy with pre-season preparations

Team Toth Aprilia rider Hector Barbera has looked strong thus far in 2008 having begun the year demonstrating good pace in tests at Jerez and Valencia.

Updating motogp.com on his preparations for his fourth full season in the 250cc category the 21 year-old Spaniard commented: "Things are going well. We've made a strong start to the year and the test in Jerez was very good. I'm happy with our position."

"Here in Valencia we've been testing again, although not as much as in Jerez as we are sharing the track with the 125cc riders. But I'm pleased because the times are looking good and my pace is excellent."

Having been near the top of the timesheets consistently in 2008 testing to date, Barbera has an official Aprilia RSA machine at his disposal this year and is quietly confident about the forthcoming campaign.

With some of 2007's 250cc big guns promoted to MotoGP for 2008, Barbera will be considered as a contender for regular victories, but he is mindful not to get ahead of himself despite the positive signs in practice since the winter break.

"The new bike is a bit different and we are working on the set-up, but it already works very well," said the 2004 125cc runner-up. "The differences are only small. But anyway I think it's a bit early to think about what will happen this year, because there are a lot of riders who will be fighting to win races."

"We just need to think about the tests we still have in front of us (Jerez and Qatar) and arrive at the first Grand Prix in Qatar ready to enjoy the race."
