Runner up in the 125cc category in 2007, Hector Faubel has had a rapid adaptation process upon his arrival in 250cc. The Spaniard, continuing with the Aspar team as he returns to the quarter litre scene, has been working hard with his Aprilia machinery at recent tests in both Jerez and Valencia, and believes that he is well on course for the first race of the year next month.

"We're going well; trying some new things and doing the times that we want. The race pace at the moment is very good, and if we continue like this then we will be very competitive in the race in Qatar," noted Faubel last week at his home test in Valencia.

The upper hand in the opening tests of 2008 has been held by KTM, and in particular Finnish star Mika Kallio. However, Faubel believes that this may simply be a product of the environment in which the 250cc teams have been testing as of late, and is confident that both he and Aprilia can start the season strong.

"The KTMs are fast on the small circuits like Valencia and Jerez; we'll see how they go at places with long straights like Qatar. I can only speak for my work, of which I am doing a huge amount, and hope that in this fight we come out better.

"Now we go for three days of testing in Jerez, and I think that we are ready for this. We can make a good showing at that test as well."
