Nakano noting improvement after Sepang test

San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Shinya Nakano was one of the ‘fantastic four' testing his 2008 MotoGP machine at the Sepang circuit for all three days in Malaysia this week and, although he was unable to match times set by Fiat Yamaha's Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, the Japanese rider cut a contented figure as he departed from south east Asia.

"We've been doing three days of testing, which has been quite long. On the last day we tried to work more on qualifying tyre lap times. I found a direction; we were far from the top in that respect but I did find a race setting that I am happy with," stated Nakano when quizzed about the focus of his recent testing work.

Whilst the former 250cc runner-up is now one of the more experienced members of the MotoGP grid, the move to Fausto Gresini's satellite Honda outfit is only Nakano's second team change since his arrival in the premier class. Although familiar with the Honda RC212V, the challenges of different working methods and the package of said bike and Bridgestone tyres mean that there is plenty to which to be acclimatised, something that is causing no qualms for the 30 year-old.

"I am improving at every test, and my engineers are giving me more and more confidence," noted Nakano after his latest outing with the new team, in which he rides alongside rookie Alex de Angelis.

"Our brake power is strong now, which is how I like it," concluded the satellite rider in his assessment of activities in Sepang. "That's another thing that pleases me."
