Rossi content with Malaysian findings

Valentino Rossi was in a highly positive frame of mind at the conclusion of this week's second 2008 Malaysia test, revealing his satisfaction at his own work and that undertaken by his crew of Fiat Yamaha mechanics at Sepang.

Although the red flag shown due to Olivier Jacque's fuel shortage cut Rossi's Thursday race simulation slightly short, the five-time MotoGP World Champion had already successfully completed most of the exercise and was pleased with the results.

His rhythm was consistently under lap record pace and improved on his time from the January Sepang test, as well as on last year's times in the Grand Prix visit to Malaysia. He had also set good times on qualifying tyres throughout the week as he continued to build up a healthy rapport with his new compound suppliers Bridgestone.

"I'm very happy because last time we had some problems with the qualifying setting, but we've worked on the bike and on the tyres and we've improved a lot," enthused the Italian rider.

"Today (Thursday) has been another good day for us. We've tried some front tyres, we've worked a little bit more on the qualifying tyre and at the end I did a race simulation in which I worked well with the bike and I was fast until the end. So, it's a good step and it's a good start to the season."

"We've worked more at this test on the set-up of the bike to enable it to work as well as possible with the new tyres," continued Rossi. "We've also continued to work on the new engine, which will be the standard one for this season, and on the electronics."

"We've still got a lot to do but so far everything is progressing well. Now we're looking forward to Jerez and seeing where we are at a new track alongside all of our competitors," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Rossi's Fiat Yamaha team manager Davide Brivio commented: "So far it's been good. This is only the second test (of 2008), we have two more tests in Jerez and Qatar, so before the first test we have to see, but at the moment we're quite happy. We're making progress all the time and things are going well. It looks like we have a good base, so let's see!"

On the new working relationship with Bridgestone Brivio added. "It's very good, exciting, a new partnership, so we have to discover each other. But also we are getting good feedback and good results on the track. The performance is good, we broke a lap record here and we had a good race simulation today so the tyres are working very well."
