BMW M Award takes place this Sunday

The BMW M Award is the first competitive event of the year, and this season the prize for the fastest ‘qualifier' in the one-off session is a Z4 M Roadster. Previous winners of the award are Loris Capirossi, Valentino Rossi (x2), Sete Gibernau and Colin Edwards, with Rossi the most recent victor in Jerez. The Italian edged out home rider Dani Pedrosa last year to win a BMW Z4 M Coupe.

The German car manufacturer also run a season-long version of the BMW M Award, in which the best qualifying times from every MotoGP qualifying session are added together to decide a winner. The criteria has been altered slightly for this year, with riders able to drop their worst time from their personal total as they aim to take home a convertible BMW M3 at the end of the year.
