Simoncelli, Faubel, Nieto and De Rosa in action in Estoril

Marco Simoncelli was once again the fastest rider on the second day of a private test held in Estoril, with a time of 1'42.2.

Marco Simoncelli was once again the fastest rider on the second day of a private test held in Estoril, with a time of 1'42.2. The Metis Gilera rider's lap was nearly a second slower than his race pace from 2007, but this owed much to strong winds at the Portuguese circuit over the course of his 74 laps.

Aspar rider Hector Faubel concluded his activity at the European circuit with a fastest lap of 1'42.7. Working with a new engine for his Aprilia machine in the morning, Faubel later focused his attention on the chassis and rear end of his 2008 machine.

In the 125cc class, Pablo Nieto and Raffaele de Rosa continued with their much-needed ‘catch up' session to get to grips with their new KTM bike. The Onde 2000 team-mates put in some important development work with the lower cylinder category machines, with Nieto noting improvements in both the chassis and engine.

"I'm keen to ride at Jerez next week," said the 125cc category veteran after the windswept day. "This session in Estoril has been very useful for us, but I missed battling against other riders."
