Hayden clear about title goal; doubts Honda engine for Qatar

Despite an unforgiving time onboard the 2007 Honda RC212V, Nicky Hayden has set himself a big goal for the coming season; to regain the MotoGP title that the American won in 2006.

My aim this year is simple: to win the title. I know that after the last season it may seem madness, but I think that when you achieve something once, you can do it again, said the Kentucky Kid at the Repsol presentation held yesterday in Zaragoza. We´ll soon find out; it´s not long before the season starts. I can´t wait.

Hayden has been working with both the new pneumatic valve Honda engine and the old school conventional model in recent tests in Sepang and Phillip Island, and remains uncertain as to what stage of development the latest version will be in by the time the first race in Qatar comes around on March 9th.

I´m not sure that it will be perfect for the first race, but I think Honda will supply us with a competitive machine that will be ready, explained Trick Daddy. Qatar has a very long straight and you need a good engine, with a lot of horsepower.

I think that the big advantage of the new bike is the additional revs of the engine. The extra speed is great, though for the time being the bike´s too sluggish, so the HRC engine specialists still have work to do before the start of the new season.

More speed doesn´t always necessarily mean better lap times, but during a race it´s a great advantage when overtaking other riders. Everyone is working hard and Honda is looking forward to winning the title again, concluded the 2006 World Champion.

More thoughts from Hayden can be heard in the accompanying video.
